Movie review 5 - Mamma Mia!

Updated: Nov 21, 2023

Movie 5 - Mamma Mia!(2008) Dir. Phyllida Lloyd.

I absolutely love this movie, the cast, the songs, the story, everything is just perfect.

Meryl Streep is such a delight to watch absolutely loved her in The Devil Wears Prada(2006) and Only Murders in the Building season 3(2023). The way she just jumps into song and dance is so fun to see, it feels like something out a bollywood movie, all the characters joining in and making it a spectacle is so fun to watch.

The story is a such a wonderful depiction of a mother-daughter relationship, the song 'Slipping through my fingers' (ABBA) felt so emotional.

The songs were very recognizable and fun to sing along with. The 3 fathers were just pure comedy and even the Donna's(Meryl Streep) friends.

Small issues like Sophie (Amanda Seyfried) choosing not to tell her mother earlier that she was the one who invited the men felt bad because her mother was just all over the place and putting more tension on her was weird.

Another thing that felt weird was Sam proposing in the end.

There were a lot of things that felt out of place and i think it is because it is adapted from a musical some things might have got lost in translation.

I'm keeping the review short because i honestly can't find the words to describe it and i mean it in a good way. The movie was a mix of comedy and its just a chick flick that's fun to watch. 6/10

Edit (21/11/2023) :

Saw Mamma Mia 2 and thought instead of writing a full review i shall just add it here.

The movie was nice, The fathers got more screen time which was good, The friends Christine Baranski and Julie Walters were hilarious and good to see. I did not expect to see Cher; Nevertheless she was also fabulous, never realized how beautiful her talking voice is.

Showing Donna's (Meryl Streep) journey before she had Sophie was also quite good.

Overall it's a fun movie, personally liked it better than the first one because it was more casual and fun. sad that not much of Meryl Streep was there but it's fine, it was still good and just a fun cheesy movie. 7/10

My next review is again a TV show its Billions(2016-2023), the reason I'm doing another show is because i have some issues with the season finale and i want to get it of my chest.

Check this out on Medium.
