Movie review 34 - Argylle (2024), Dir. Matthew Vaughn.
Well, it's been a while since I have written something or watched a movie. I've been busy with college and had to push projects and writing to prioritize passing some courses. Nevertheless, I'm back so let's review some movies now.

Argylle follows a fiction writer Elly Conway (Bryce Dallas Howard) as she gets entangled with the world of spies whose stories seem familiar to her books.
When I saw the trailer, it felt very similar to The Lost City(2022), but it's not the same. Both follow a similar story of books and real life, but in Argylle, the events in the book have happened and are happening now, which I gotta say is a unique thing I have not seen before.
Sam Rockwell did a brilliant job, absolutely loved him, he brought a lot of life to the character and is not annoying. His role is important even though he is not Argylle He was an integral part of the story and not just a useless side character used to make the main character important.
The train scene was shot quite well, constantly showing Sam Rockwell and Henry Cavill gave me a good sense of what was going on through Elly's head. Her reactions to the whole thing felt plausible. Despite being under attack, she did not freak out and pass out; instead, she acted rational while being careful of Sam Rockwell as she didn't know who he was, which did help in showing how smart she is.
All the twists and turns in the movie were interesting. The only twist I had an issue with is the death of Keira. I mean if someone shoot a bullet perfectly at a certain angle and at a specific area near the heart such that you don't die, It felt like very weak plot armour as it wasn't explained properly and just seems ridiculous. The story of trying to retrieve the files that will expose the bad guy is not bad as it does not draw main focus from Elly and her story. The whole travelling to the secret keeper to get the master-key felt pointless and did not have the effect of wowing or be a thrill. it was just boring.
The characters are interesting and the slow reveal of who they really are like Bryan Cranston and Catherin O'hara. I did not see this coming but just before the reveal with all the suspenseful music I kind of felt it coming but it was still a good reveal.
The issue I had with this movie is by the end it all got messy and it felt very rushed. The revealing of the real agent Argylle with Henry Cavill and then going back in time to show young Agent Argylle and integrating it with the Kingsman universe felt not needed. Reason being it poses the question that if these two are in the same universe then how does Sam Jackson work in it as he was in the Kingsman movie as a villain but in this movie he is the good guy. The end, instead of tying loose ends, leaves us with plot holes and questions.
There was absolutely no need to integrate the movies and a making cinematic universe. without it the movie does stand a chance of being a good standalone Matthew Vaughn movie. His cinematography and crazy technology and crazy sets are something I find entertaining despite there being glaring potholes and plot armour in movie like Kingsman 2 which was good to see but when you think about the movie your rating would go down and down.
Hopefully his next movie which is Kingsman 3 i believe will be better and not have plot-holes but still have crazy tech and cinematography.
To conclude the movie is watchable, it has good action and good acting along with fancy sets and the cute cat Alfie which is why I would recommend it, just don't think about it too much afterwards because you might feel like you wasted time. 7/10
